German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has described a drone attack on a passenger train near the Ukraine-Poland border as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ‘calculated provocation’.
Speaking to reporters in Wolgast, Germany, on Monday (September 14), Pistorius said he believes Russia took such a dangerous step to create fear and uncertainty among the people of Europe.
He stated that European countries must deal with such situations coolly and not fall for any provocations. However, he also warned that Europe is ready to defend itself. The German Defense Minister added that European countries would not back down if the situation further deteriorates.
According to Pistorius, Putin is deliberately playing a ‘dangerous game’.
Earlier on Sunday, a Russian drone attack occurred on a passenger train in the Ukrainian region bordering Poland. The incident took place shortly after a special train carrying former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and several European diplomats had traveled on the same railway line.
The incident has raised new concerns about Europe’s security situation.
